Convert HEIC Files to JPG on Windows or Mac Computers
The main purpose of this post is to educate people about how to convert HEIC files to JPG on Windows or MAC computers. So that Synology NAS users could understand the storage files which they are transferring into their NAS device from the computer. We will share the steps to convert the files on your device, so let’s do it.
On Windows:
There are two options to convert HEIC files to JPG on windows or MAC computers, let’s learn them one by one.
Option 1: Quick built-in method (Windows 10 & 11)
You can actually make Windows handle HEIC files — but Microsoft decided to make it annoying.
- Open one of those HEIC files.
- It’ll say something like “You need a codec to view this file.”
- Click the link that takes you to the Microsoft Store.
- Search for “HEIF Image Extensions” and “HEVC Video Extensions.”
- The first one’s usually free. The second one (HEVC) might cost a dollar or two. Install both.
After that, Windows Photos should open HEICs normally. You can then open each file and Save As → JPEG if you need that format.

Kind of tedious if you’ve got 200 photos, though. So…
Option 2: Bulk Convert Using a Free Tool
You can use iMazing HEIC Converter — tiny, free, and with no ads.
- Download it (just Google it — it’s safe).
- Drag all your HEICs into the window.
- Pick JPEG as the format.
- Hit Convert.
On Mac:
You’ve got it easier here. macOS already gets HEIC. You can open and convert them right inside Preview.
- Open the image in Preview.
- Go to File → Export.
- Choose JPEG from the dropdown.
- Save it wherever.
If you’ve got a ton of them, use Automator (yeah, that old app still works great):
- Open Automator, create a Quick Action.
- Add the action Change Type of Images.
- Choose JPEG.
- Save it as “Convert to JPEG.”
- Now you can right-click any photo folder → Quick Actions → Convert to JPEG.

Easy and fast.
Hope you learned how to convert HEIC files to JPG on Windows or MAC computers. And even after that you are facing any problem you can register your issue on this link.
